Chocolate Cake Donuts

Ingredients
  • For the donuts:
  • 1 cup freshly milled wheat flour
  • ½ cup cane sugar
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon aluminum-free baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon homemade vanilla extract
  • 1 organic free range egg
  • 6 tablespoons sour cream
  • ¼ cup raw milk
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil (like olive or grapeseed)
  • For the glaze:
  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 6 tablespoons whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon homemade vanilla extract
Instructions
  1. To make the donuts:
  2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, chocolate chips, and baking soda.
  4. In a small bowl, beat together the vanilla, egg, sour cream, milk, and oil.
  5. Stir the wet ingredients into the dry until just combined.
  6. Spoon in a buttered donut pan.
  7. Bake for 8 minutes or until the tops spring back when you touch them.
  8. Let the donuts cool in the pan before removing or glazing.
  9. I made my donuts without the glaze, but if you'd like it, here's the instructions:
  10. To make the glaze:
  11. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the sugar, milk, and vanilla until well combined. Remove from the heat. Spread over donuts and let dry before consuming.
