Homemade Refried Beans in Under 10 Minutes

We love beans at my house and eat them a lot. But I hate how long they take to cook. Too often, I am not organized enough to remember to soak my beans or patient enough to wait the 3-4 hours it takes to “rapid” cook them. Well, I just discovered the best secret – Homemade Refried Beans in Under 10 Minutes! Since I almost always have dried beans on hand, I’m very excited about this discovery – it will seriously revolution lunchtime at my house…

Here’s how you, too, can get homemade refried beans FAST!

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup bean flour {I used pinto beans, but black beans would also be great!}
  • 2 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder

Note – 1/2 cup dried beans yields about  3/4 cup bean flour. I ground 2 cups of beans so I have extra on hand to make lunchtime even quicker next time I want homemade refried beans.

Technique:

Gather ingredients. Put them all in a sauce pan and cook over medium heat. Stir constantly while the beans start to thicken {1-3 minutes}. After they’ve started thickening, turn heat down to low and let it simmer for 5 minutes. Viola !! Homemade Refried Beans in under 10 minutes.
