Homestead Honey Cornbread
 
 
My hubby's "Holy Grail" of cornbread recipes

Ingredients
  • 2 cups fresh milled yellow cornmeal
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ¼ cup milk
  • 6 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 tablespoon lard
  • ¼ cup honey
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400 F with cast iron skillet in the oven
  2. Combine dry ingredients in a bowl.
  3. Blend in the eggs, milk, butter and lard, leaving the honey for last.
  4. Pour batter into a 9-10” cast iron skillet and place on the middle rack of the oven.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes or till a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let the cornbread rest before serving.
